DOHRMAN FAMILY RACING HDRA Redline at Stateline race report

Murrieta, CA - 1/30/2012 - Primm Valley, Nevada was the stage for the rebirth of the HDRA (High Desert Racing Association). The HDRA's history is deep rooted in off road racing. But in the early 90's, the racing organization had its last race. 8 months ago, Roger Norman and a few others had the idea to build a series "For the Racers....BY THE RACERS". This sparked the interest of the crew at Dohrman Family Racing, so the team looked into all the new offerings and idea's brought forward by the HDRA and decided that was their direction for 2012. They also decided to move up to from class 3000 to class 10 because of the competitive nature and stacked field.

Saturday was a typical high desert winter day, with 20 mph winds and temps in the low 50's. The #1025 DFR car staged at 6:00am for the unclassified race. At 6:25am, Chad Dohrman (driver) and Justin Dohrman (navigator) would holeshot the drag race style start. After doing two solid laps, the team decided to pull out and head for the pits. After some minor clutch adjustments, the car was ready to go for the main heat.

2:30 pm and the #1025 DFR car was staged again and ready to tackle the rough 13 mile course. Chad Dohrman (driver) and Dave Jenkins (navigator) would start in the 2nd row, position 4 in Class 10. The first 4 laps went great. The Hoffman Motorsports shocks really handled the rough race course with ease. On the 5th lap, the team wold suffer a small electrical problem that caused the car to drop one of its 4 cylinders. The #1025 car had been in second place all race but would have to settle for fourth place for the day.

The team rallied together after the race, digging into the car to find the problem. Tom Madigan, from Madigan Motorsports came over and found the issue within minutes. The panels were all pulled off car and the root cause of the problem was repaired. The car was ready for day 2.

Sunday, the team awoke to amazing weather. The bone chilling wind had moved on and the DFR team had gathered at the staging area for the 6:00 am race. Dave Jenkins (driver) and Rich Brandt (navigator) were expecting a brutally rough race course, but to their surprise, the amazing crew at HDRA had prepped the course throughout the night. After a few solid laps, the team decided that everything was good on the car, and it was ready for the big race later in the day.

The final race of the weekend was missing some cars due to damages suffered the day before. With Class 1, Trophy Truck and Class 10 all going to battle on the same 13 mile loop we knew our Hoffman Motorsports shocks and Method Race Wheels were going to be put to the test. Coming into the 2012 season the team objective was to finish each race and put DFR on the map. Dave took the holeshot ahead of the 3rd place 10 car from the day before but would shortly after give up the position by spinning out in a muddy turn. Instead of being aggressive and trying to chase everyone down Dave settled into a comfortable and fast pace. Dave would sit back in 4th 30 seconds behind 3rd place for four laps. On lap 4 Dave brought the Danzio ECOTECH to life and started pounding through the gears of his Dave Foltz tranny quickly advancing into 3rd place. But the work was not done. Car 1025 needed to finish 45 seconds in front of 4th place.
