Fun 3-Gun Match for Women's 2A Advocacy Group
By Amy Dillon for GATORZ Eyewear
The GATORZ Eyewear Team understands the importance of the Second Amendment. Our constitutional rights and the fight to preserve freedom are something we know is instilled in our customers as well. When an opportunity came to sponsor an organization that echoes the same sentiment, GATORZ Eyewear stepped in and became involved.
The D.C. Project is a charity foundation which raises awareness that firearms safety and violence prevention are achieved through education, not legislation; encourages the preservation of America’s gun culture; and highlights the diversity and rising demographic of female gun owners through ongoing advocacy because gun rights are women’s rights. The organization believes in the female demographic being key to protecting and preserving the 2nd Amendment. There has been a steady rise in female gun-ownership for the past several years.
The D.C. Project Foundation is a 501.c.4 that manages the D.C. Project, a nonpartisan, educational initiative of 50 women, one from every state, that go to Washington D.C. each year to meet their legislators as gun owners and 2A supporters. There have also been several members that have provided testimony to their respective state houses in opposition of stricter gun laws, and in support of pro concealed carry legislation.
The D.C. Project Foundation hosted a fundraiser 3-gun match at Gadsden Shooting Center in Iberia MO, on May 22-23, 2021. Shooters in two-person teams navigated eight courses of fire over two days, competing for a cash payout. The GATORZ team was on-site for the Friday night fundraiser banquet dinner and during the match.
This was the first 3-Gun match in which GATORZ Eyewear attended. The team had a great time meeting the competitors and discussing their reasons for why they supported this organization, as well as the sport of 3-Gun shooting.
“3-Gun” is an action-packed multi-gin competition. The reason for the name is somewhat obvious; competitors use three different firearms — a modern sporting rifle (MSR), that is, a rifle built on an AR-platform; a pistol; and a shotgun. Matches generally involve courses where the shooter must move through different stages and engage targets in a variety of different positions. Each stage will generally require the use of different firearms and require the shooter to transition between them.
The targets might include clay pigeons, cardboard silhouettes, steel targets of varying sizes and anything else the match organizer designates as a target. Distances of the targets might vary from 1 yard to 500 yards or anything in between. The shooter who hits the most targets — and avoids certain “no shoot” ones — in the least amount of time is the winner.
Just as it is with other practical pistol matches, 3-gun simulates combat or self-defense situations. A stage provides a certain scenario for using one or more of the guns in a specific sequence. Each stage in each match will usually be different than any you’ve shot before.
GATORZ Eyewear glasses are the perfect addition to include in your required gear list for a 3-Gun match. The durability and functionality of our aluminum frames, along with our impact resistant lenses serve as practical eye protection in the shooting sports.
